We spend our first term getting to know the children and settling them into school.
Happy children are happy learners!
We are focussing on developing our gross motor movements, big movements, like jumping, stretching and balancing that get us ready for reading and writing.
Speaking and listening is an important part of our learning, so we give the children lots of opportunities to talk about their experiences and develop their listening skills, this helps the children as they begin to learn sounds to read.
We introduce the children to early maths by singing lots of counting rhymes and learning numbers in lots of different ways.
Reading and telling stories and singing rhymes and songs is a huge part of Reception. We have storytime and singing everyday and are learning to tell our own stories.
This half term we are having fun listening to (and watching!) The Wonky Donkey and The Dinky Donkey.
Our new focus story is Supertato and we are having fun playing at being superheroes and thinking about what it takes to be a good superhero.
Everyday we have a phonics session where we learn a new sound and practise our reading and writing.
We have PE on a Thursday and Dance on a Friday.
We keep in touch with parents and carers through our online learning platform – DB Primary where we post ideas for home learning.
