Welcome to Year 2!

Welcome to year 2!

Our class teachers are Mrs Shepherdson and Mrs Hughes.  Our teaching assistant is Miss Harris.

Our English lessons this year will be based on key texts in with other curriculum subjects. Our learning is based around key lead questions based on History, Geography and science. The questions we will be asking are:

  • What would Traction Man use to build our school?
  • How have people like Rosa Parks made the world a better place?
  • What was Oldham like during the Victorian period?
  • What plants would Little Red Riding find in the woods?
  • Would you prefer to live in Oldham or Kenya?
  • Why would a dinosaur not make a good pet?

We will also continue our learning from year 1 in subjects like Phonics, Maths, PE and PSHE. In phonics we use Read Write Inc (RWI) which is a literacy programme which helps all children learn to read fluently and at speed so they can focus on developing their skills in comprehension, vocabulary and spelling. RWI was developed by Ruth Miskin and more information on this can be found at https://ruthmiskin.com/en/find-out-more/parents/.

This year:

PE will take place on a Tuesday. Dance will take place on a Friday.

Reading books and records will go home every day. Please bring them back into school every day, so they can be listened to by an adult. It is important that the children read as much as possible (with an adult) at home, in order to maximise their potential. Please comment in their reading record when your child has finished their book.

Homework will be given out every week and needs to be completed by the following week. We do weekly spelling tests on Mondays and weekly times table tests on a Friday.

If you have any questions about the above, please don’t hesitate to ask, the best time to talk to us is at the end of the day once all the children have been collected.

Thank you.
