Welcome to Year 2!

Year 2 is a very important year for us as we get ready of the end of year tests and prepare for moving up into KS2.

We do most of our work in our books, but with lots of practical actvivites to help us understand tricky learning.

Our learning is through Learning Challenge questions and we have a number of questions which we investigate over the year. This year our questions are:

  • Where would you prefer to live:  England or Arica?
  • What is exciting about Oldham?
  • What were people who liced her like 100 years ago?
  • How have Rosa Parks and Nelson Mandela helped to make the world a better place?
  • Why do we love to be beside the seaside?

In English, we will be learning how to write stories and how we can make them interesting and exciting to read. We will  be learning how to write our own instructions about things, and will also learn how to write non-chronological reports.

In maths we will be focussing on addition, subtraction and place value and will be learning about these concepts by having lots of fun with numbers! We will also be looking at multiplication and division and we will be solving problems using all 4 operations.  We will learn avbout shape and measure as well as learning how to draw simple block graphs and how to answer questions using them.

We have PE on a Monday and dance on a Friday.

In Year 2, our day starts at 8.50am. We have our lunch at 12.00pm and then play out after we have eaten until 12.50pm. Our day finishes at 3.05pm.

Our class teacher is called Miss Clifford.

September 2017

We have all settled in well and have been busy doing lots of work!

We started with a small topic around Space where we read lots of stories about being stuck on the moon. Our favourite class story during was ‘Charlie and the Cheesemonster’ by Justin Birch because Charlie went to the moon and found it really was made of cheese.

We have also started looking at animals in Science, focusing on adults and the babies that they have. During this topic we also had a visit from Miss Clifford’s pet tortoise – Turbo. We learnt how to look after him and we even all got a turn at holding him.

In Maths we have looked at telling the time to o’clock and half past, times tables and place value – using tens and ones to help us find the answers.
