Welcome to Year 6!

Hello my name is Mrs Harding.

Year 6 is a very big year for us! It's our last year at primary school  and we are busy preparing ourself for our new adventures at secondary school. It's a very exciting year to be in!

Our focus in English for Reading is inference and deduction.   We will be writing character and setting descriptions and a non-chronological report linked to our Learning Challenge topic. We will look at writing a range of short stories of different genres. We will learn how to write an explanation, recount and biographical report linked to our Learning Challenge questions.

In maths, we will be learning how to solve  multi-step problems and problems involving fractions, decimals and percentages, choosing and using the appropriate calculation strategies at each stage. We will suggest, plan and develop lines of enquiry, review methods and identify and answer related questions. We will be learning about all areas of measurement ā€“ looking at  converting from one unit to another ā€“ for distance, mass and volume.

We have a PE session every week. PE is on Monday and we must have our PE kit for the lesson.

We continue to have a weekly music session with Mr Byers, and lots of children in our class are also in the school band.

Our  Learning Challenge  questions are:

  • Would the children in Oldham have been evaculated in World War 2?
  • Where would you prefer to live: England or Brazil?
  • Were the Vikings always vicious and victorious?
  • Iā€™m a Year 6 pupil, can you get me out of here?

In Year 6, our day starts at 8.50am. We run a mile a day and then  break in the morning with a healthy snack. Our lunchtime is from 12.20pm until 1.00pm. Our day finishes at 3.10pm.

Our homework consists of using maths learning platforms (e.g. TT Rockstars), learning spellings, reading and regular revision.
