Welcome to Year 6!

Year 6 is a very big year for us! It's our last year at primary school and we have to take the national end of year tests in summer so we have to work really hard all year. After the tests, we are busy preparing ourself for our new adventures at secondary school. It's a very exciting year to be in!

In English, we will be looking at inference and deduction through images and words to make our own writing a lot more interesting and of a higher standard. We will be writting character and setting descriptions and a non-chronological report linked to our Learning Challenge topic. We will look at writing a range of short stories conveying different genres. We will learn how to write an explanation, recount and biographical report linked to our Learning Challenge questions.

In maths, we will be learning how to solve two and multi-step problems and problems involving fractions, decimals and percentages, choosing and using the appropriate calculation strategies at each stage. We will continue to work on our times tables and division and seeing the links across other areas of maths. We will suggest, plan and develop lines of enquiry; collect; organise and represent information; interpret results and review methods; identify and answer related questions. We will be learning about all areas of measurement ā€“ looking at equivalents and converting from one unit to another ā€“ for distance and volume.

We have a PE session every week. PE is on Monday and we must have our PE kit for the lesson.

We continue to have a weekly music session with Mr Byers, and lots of children in our class are also in the school band.

Our learning is through Learning Challenge questions and we have a number of questions which we investigate over the year. This year our questions are:

  • Would the children in Oldham have been evaculated in World War 2?
  • Where would you prefer to live: England or Brazil?
  • Were the Vikings always vicious and victorious?
  • Iā€™m a Year 6 pupil, can you get me out of here?

In Year 6, our day starts at 8.50am. We have a break in the morning when we can buy fruit and milk from the Snack Trolley. We have our lunch at 12.20pm and then play out after we have eaten until 1.00pm. Our day finishes at 3.10pm..

Our class teacher is called Mrs Harding.
