Welcome to Year 6!

Welcome to Year 6! Our class teacher is Mrs Harding and we also have Mrs Beswick to help us with our learning this year.

We have a lot of exciting learning to get through!

This year we will be reading literature by some brilliant authors that will link our English learning to our Science, History and Geography lessons.

The texts we will be reading include: The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne; Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman; Viking Boy by Tony Bradman; Wonder by R.J. Palacio and The Golden Horsemen of Bagdad by Saviour Pirotta.

Whilst reading these books we will be investigating the following key questions:

  • How could Hitler have convinced a nation like Germany to follow him?
  • Why is the heart the most important pump that we own?
  • Were the Vikings always vicious and victorious?
  • Have we always looked like this?
  • Why was the Islamic civilization around AD900 known as the golden age?
  • Iā€™m a year 6 pupil, how can I get out of here?

We will also continue our learning from Year 5 in subjects such as Maths, MFL, PE, Music and PSHE.

Just a reminder about our weekly timetable for this year:

  • Monday afternoon - PE.
  • Monday after school - Multi-sports club with Mr Hatton.
  • Tuesday afternoon ā€“ Music
  • Friday afternoon ā€“ Band

Reading book bags will be given out and returned daily. Please take the time to read every day.
