Year 6 Viking workshop
On the 8th of September the Year 6 children took part in a Viking Workshop day to launch their learning challenge topic 'Were the Vikings always vicious and victorious?'
The Viking Experience Day was delivered by the Travellers Through Time's workshop company and the day was immersive, educational, interactive - and most of all - fun!
The children particpated in 4 sessions:
The Vikings at Home
• Learning about the structure of Viking society
• Learning about the rights of men, women, children, slaves.
• Learning about fire striking
• Taking part in a food game
• Learning aabout Viking toys. How did Viking children play?
Early Medieval Activities
• Writing with a quill pen.
• Making rope, the Viking way!
• Using a quern
• Making a Viking fibula brooch
• Playing a place name game
Gods and Monsters:
• Learning who were the Viking Gods? Why did the Vikings have so many Gods and
Goddesses?
• Role playing, 'The challenge of the Norns' Will you survive life in Viking times?
Only the Norns, the Goddesses of Fate know...
War
• Learning why couldn't the Vikings and the Anglo Saxons get along?
• Seing how a Viking soldier defended himself
• Taking part in a Viking battle.
• A viking story
