Welcome to Reception!
Our teacher is called Miss Thompson.
In Reception we build on all the great learning from our Nursery Class.
We are spending our first half term getting to know our children and making sure they are settled and happy. Happy children are happy learners!
We continue to work hard developing our gross motor movements, big movements, like jumping, stretching and balancing that get us ready for reading and writing.
We use squiggle while you wiggle to help us get ready for writing and have already mastered some of the tricky pre-handwriting shapes!
Speaking and listening is an important part of our learning, so we give the children lots of opportunities to talk about their experiences and develop their listening skills, this helps the children as they begin to learn sounds to read.
Reading and telling stories and singing rhymes and songs is a huge part of Reception. We have story time and singing every day and are learning to tell our own stories using story maps and Makaton signs.
We use Read Write Inc to deliver our phonics lessons. Every day we have a phonics session where we learn a new sound and practise our blending and reading.
We introduce the children to early maths by singing lots of counting rhymes and learning numbers in lots of different ways, we aim to give our children a solid foundation in mathematical ‘big ideas’ and concepts including; attributes, pattern, comparison and change so they are ready for future learning in Year 1 and beyond.
This term we will be thinking about the world around us, where we live and the changing seasons.
Our stories and books will focus on night time themes and in particular nocturnal animals.
We have a lovely music session on a Thursday, PE on a Tuesday and Dance on a Friday.
