September information:

We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone in Years 1 – 6 back on Monday 6th September, and we’re working hard to make the school a safe, enjoyable environment.

Please refer to the letter above for more information about attendance, control measures and Covid-19.

Thank you

Attendance will be mandatory in September, as the government expects all pupils to attend school. The usual rules will apply, meaning we’ll be recording attendance and following up on any absences.

Safety measures

  • Children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 should be dropped off at the main school gate and enter the school premises themselves.
  • Year 3 and 4 will enter and leave school through the hall door, nearest the entrance.
  • Year 5 and 6 will enter and leave school through the hall door nearest the car park.
  • A member of staff will be on duty at the gate daily to pass any messages on and to direct you.
  • Children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and 2 may be brought around to their normal classroom doors at the rear of the school.
  • On entering school, children will be asked to wash their hands, and do this at regular intervals during the school day.  Years 5 and 6 may also be provided with hand sanitizer.
  • The school has upgraded its cleaning regime and surfaces, equipment and communal areas will be cleaned very regularly throughout the day.
  • An updated home school agreement and extra part to our behaviour policy will be sent to you before the start of term to discuss with your child, as it is essential that they follow the rules to keep everyone safe.
  • There are no changes to the school uniform and full school uniform including the correct footwear is expected daily.
  • Parents who pay for school meals, please pay via the school app.
  • Any pupil who develops any symptoms in school, will immediately be placed in the school quarantine area and parents contacted to take home immediately.  They will then not be able to return to school until they have a negative test result and has shared this result with school.
  • The school has completed a full risk assessment for the opening of school in September.  Should you wish to see a copy of this, please email the school to request it from info@st-hughs.oldham.sch.uk.  A copy will also be posted on the website.
  • Please work with us with all of these arrangements.  They are in place to keep you, your children and the school community safe.  They will be continually reviewed.
  • If you have a child starting Nursery or Reception, you will receive another letter with information about their transition into school, the dates for visits and the planned gradual arrangements for a gradual transition to a full school day to settle them in well.
  • Parents who need to contact school, please do so by phone or email, please do not come into the school.  If your child has a medical appointment during the day, please contact school the day before the appointment to arrange a safe pick up at a specific time.

If you have any questions or concerns about the points we’ve set out above, please get in touch with school and a member of staff will call you back.

School Uniform

We have a school uniform policy which we expect parents/carers to support us with.  Please ensure that your child is dressed correctly.

Girls – Grey skirt/pinafore/trousers, white polo shirt and royal blue cardigan/jumper and white socks/grey tights.  In the summer girls may wear a blue and white checked summer dress.

Boys – Grey trousers/shorts in summer, white polo shirts, royal blue jumper and grey socks.

Shoes – Black sensible (sturdy) shoes, no trainers, slip on pumps or boots.

Coloured shoes, socks, hair adornments and oversized bows, trainers and jewellery are NOT part of the uniform policy.  When a child arrives inappropriately dressed it affects the way they feel and in turn affects their learning progress.

Please ensure that you support all of the school’s policies. All of the above relates directly to raising standards. When parents do not support the school, it hinders the standards of behaviour and progress. We are striving to reach to be the best and if we address the above it will help in our journey for continuous improvement.
