Welcome to Year 1!

Welcome to Year 1!

Our teacher in Year is Mrs Martin and our teaching assistant is Miss Swift.

In Year 1 we build on all the amazing learning we have done in Reception and continue to explore and investigate through play!

This half term we have been doing really well getting used to the new routines of Key Stage 1.

Our quality texts this half term are ‘Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell’ and ‘Beegu’. We will learn these stories really well so we can use them to do amazing writing!

In our maths learning we have been making sure we know our numbers to ten really well, especially comparing the numbers with the words; more than, greater than, equal, less than and fewer.

In Science we have learnt about everyday materials. We carried out an experiment to test out a good material to keep our class teddy dry.

In History we have learning all about what it was like when our grown ups were little. Can you believe you couldn’t get Youtube on your phone?!

In RE we are learning about how important harvest is and what it means to have a faith.

Reading is so important to us at St Hugh’s. Please continue to support with your child’s reading journey by reading at home and practising their sounds.

Book bags will be sent home on a Friday. Please return them on a Wednesday.

We have PE on a Monday, please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit.

We have Music on a Wednesday and Dance on a Friday (children do not need PE kit for dance).
