Castleshaw visits March 2018
Years 3, 4 and 5 visited Castleshaw in March to extend their Geographical knowledge and understanding and also to learn about orienteering.
Year 5 Castleshaw.
When Year 5 visited Castleshaw they started by looking at Google Earth and honing their map-reading skills, then they used them to complete an orienteering task. The mile a day sessions came in handy and Matt couldn’t believe how quickly the chidlren ran around the grounds!
Then they tested their team-work skills by guiding each other through a trail – BLINDFOLDED! The children had to really trust each other and communicate clearly.
After lunch Year 5 learned how to tie knots – then used this new skill to build shelters. Some of the children even said that they would like to stay in them overnight.
Year 4 Castleshaw
When Year 4 visited Castleshaw they learned about rivers and water sources in the morning - walking up a snowy stream to find its source. It was a very exciting walk. In the afternoon Year 4 learned all about maps and completed an orienteering task around the Castleshaw centre. No trip to Castleshaw is the same without a visit to the adventure playground at the end especially the big tunnel! The chidlren had a super day.
