Nursery and Reception - Outdoor music lesson and butterfly release.
The Nursery and Reception children enjoyed a lovely outdoor music session today and at the end released their butterflies to a special song.
Linking project events Year 3 and 4 June 2023
The Year 4 children really enjoyed spending time with the Year 4 children from Roundthorn and participated really well during the Interfaith Forum, during a linking project event in June.
June visits to Castleshaw
In June the children in KS2 all visited the Castleshaw Centre. Year 6 participated in a day of outdoor pursuits, including den building and canoeing. Year 3, 4 and 5 will all spent their days enhancing their geographical skills.

Design and Technology projects
In May the whole school took part in a design and technology fortnight, ending in a lovely collaborative worship sharing successes. The children learned about the work of famous artists and used a range of media to create their own sculpures and creations.
Coronation Activities at St Hugh's
The children enjoyed a special coronation lunch in May to celebrate the coronation of King Charles. They also experienced special activities in class.
Early Years - learning about new life
We have had so much excitement around school about our new arrivals this April. We have managed to hatch all of our ducks and chicks and we have one little duck who loves human contact and is super friendly. His name is midnight. More pictures to follow. The children in the Early Years are really loving learning about new life and how to care for the birds.
Easter Eggstravaganza
At the end of term we held our annual Easter Eggstravaganza. This year children had the opportunity to take part in a colouring competition, a decorated egg competition and a decorated hat competition. The children had a great time at the event and we love singing our favourite Easter song - "Spring Chicken".

Year 6 Art
Year 6 looked at feedback in art, and how useful it is to help us improve. Please see some of our before and after pictures to see how our art improved after feedback.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue visits to Year 2 and Year 6
In March the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service visited the school to talk to year 2 about fire safety, and of course to have a look at the fire truck. Later in the month they returned to talk to Year 6 about fire safety - including how to stop, drop and roll.
Book Week 2023
Book week this year focussed around the book Flotsam by David Wiesner.

The children experienced activites around the key text and a visit by an author.
Reading workshops
It was lovely to invite parents of Years 3 - 6 into school to hear about how we teach reading in school, listen to the children perform and read with their children.
Groundbreakers
Mary from Groundbreakers visited us in January to lead an assembly. She also commenced a lunchtime RE club with Year 5 children.
Holiday HAF project
Relax Kids run a holiday club at St Hugh's. In the Christmas holidays this was visited by a local counsellor. The children received holiday food and activities and had a wonderful time. See Twitter for more pictures and information from the HAF.
Christmas 2022
Christmas 2022 was great fun at school.
All the children had a Christmas party with to Father Christmas in his grotto for the youngest children. The children also took part in performances for parents led by the music specialist teachers from Oldham.
The children who attended forest school made wonderful Christmas wreaths and our Christmas Fair was a great success with each class selling Christmas goods made in school and a full tombola and raffle.

Individual Dance winner
A huge well done to Vanessa who choreographed and entered her dance into the sports dance competition. She came third overall. We were all delighted to watch her dance in the school assembly.
St Hugh's Day November 2022
The School and the Parish marked St Hugh's day in November with a whole school assembly with children's learning about St Hugh and a Parish Service attended by the school choir, Parish comunity, local community and families. The Choir sang excellently and the Nursery Rhyme Mass led by Rev Lyn was enjoyed by all.

Children in Need 2022
Children in Need 2022 was marked in school by wearing comfy slippers and bringing in a Teddy. This was vote for by the children in their class council meetings. The whole school also took part in the whole school Children in Need dance, that they learned in their dance lesson and then performed all together at the end of the day.

Library Visits
All the children in KS2 visited the Library in the Autumn term 2022 and Summer term of 2022. This is part of the school's reading for pleasure project. The children learned where the library is, when they can visit and all recieved a library card so they can visit and borrow books whenever they want. They also took part in workshops and activities.

Harvest Festival 4th October 2022
On the 4th of October the school held a Harvest Assembly.
All of the classess took part in the assembly by sharing prayers, songs, art work or learning from class. The very generous donations from the community were taken to Oldham Food Bank. This is the food bank/charity chosen by the children.
Curate Amy-Elizabeth received our Harvest gifts and even found a heart shaped applye amongst the harvest produce grown at school. We are clearly growing love at St Hugh's!
Early Years Stay and Play
Every week the Nursery holds a stay and play event. One week this is a music stay and outdoor activities and the following week it is planned by Mrs Glenn. This week the children and parents made pizzas together and engaged in some lovely outdoor learning.
Year 6 science practical lesson
Year 6 are enjoyed an amazing practical science lesson. They dissected lamb hearts as part of their learning unit about the circulatory system
Remembering Queen Elizabeth II
On Monday 12th September, in our school assembly we remembered the life and service of Queen Elizabeth II. The pictures and prayer from the assembly are in the document above.
Year 2 - Friday 9th September
Year 2 completed a Science lesson on Friday 9th September. They we used clay to explore changing the shape of a material by using pushes and pulls. They then used their knowledge to make sculptures of Queen Elizabeth II.
